Today was all about introductions! The students introduced a partner with the help of a questionnaire attached bellow. In addition the students received a syllabus for 7-4 Language Arts.
Students were also given the syllabus for Language Arts. Attached below is a copy if the students should loose their syllabus.
In the students homeroom class they should have received multiple information sheets that need to be filled out and returned to school ASAP!
Today the students completed a clock partners sheet provided below. We will be using this sheet throughout the year for students to partner with different students for different activities.
As a class we discussed what I expect out of the students and what the students expect from me as their teacher. Then the students signed the bottom of their sheet. A copy of this "Educational Contract" is attached.
Lastly the students completed an activity about their favorite book. The students were asked to fill out a worksheet (listed below) in complete sentences. When the students were done they would decorate a spine with their book title. In class these book spines will be displayed on our class bookshelf. Students can use this bookshelf when they need a recommendation for a new book to read.
Today we went to the library. The librarian, Mrs. Ruby, helped the students set up their usernames and passwords for WAKEID and other sites the school uses. The students should now be able to log on to computers around the school, log into their WAKEID account and log into their school email account.
August 3rd:
We began working with our first poem today, "Bailando"
The students read the poem by themselves, with a partner and together as a class focusing on the imagery within the poem. After reading the poem once, as a class, the students watched a video about imagery. With a partner the students read the poem again and completed a chart to help guide them through the imagery in "Bailando." If the students did not complete the chart it should be completed for homework.
Today we continued looking at the "Bailando" poem.
To start class the students watched a Brainpop video about Theme. While watching the video the students completed a T-chart on a piece of paper with theme on the left side (where they defined theme during the video) and characteristics of theme (where they wrote down the characteristics talked about during the video) on the right side.
After the video the students turned back to "Bailando" and answered text dependent questions on a handout provided. At the end of class we reviewed the answers. All students should have that complete.
Students should keep studying over the weekend for their syllabus quiz on Tuesday 8/8!
