Students will begin class by examining and answering the essential questions for this unit in their notebook in complete sentences. (Students will be referring back to their answers at the end of the unit)
Students will also receive their vocabulary chart for this unit in addition to the first 10 vocabulary words the students will see.
Students will need to fill out the vocabulary chart for each of the 10 vocabulary words by Friday January 26th.
In Unit 3 we will be examining multiple short stories and articles that have to do with the Waves of Change.
As we move through the short stories and article students will fill out their Rolling Knowledge handout. This handout will later help the students with a major assessment at the end of the unit.
We will then dive into our first Short Story of the unit.
Finish answering Essential Questions for the unit if not completed during class on Monday (due 1/26)
January 25th:
Today the student had the first half of class to finish any of their A Sound of Thunder material.
We then came together and discussed the short story.
As a class we reviewed the Dialogue and Figurative Language handouts.
When we finished discussing the students stapled their Summaries and important facts (written in a piece of notebook paper), Dialogue, and Figurative Language handouts together and turned them into their class bin.
At the end of class we will come together to discuss the story and fill out the rolling knowledge handout for this short story.
Homework:

Finish answering Essential Questions for the unit if not completed during class on Monday (due TOMORROW 1/26)
Students should also finish their A Sound of Thunder material if they did not finish in the three days we worked on it in class.
January 26th:
Today the students were a part of Ms. Lorenzen's Book Tasting!
When the students came into class they were introduced to the 5 books they will pick from to read for their literature circle book for quarter 3.
In class the students watched a book trailer for each novel, read the first couple pages, and then ranked the 5 books from most interesting (1) to least interesting (5).
Over the weekend I will be assigning the students to literature circle groups. They will know which book they will need to get on Monday 1/29.
Students will need to have their novel (bought or rented) by Monday, February 12th.
