Today the students received their unit 1 vocabulary sheet. Throughout unit 1 we will be adding to the vocabulary list. This is a great resource for students to study before tests and quizzes. Students will need to complete the chart up to the word SIMILE for homework tonight. Below is a link to see the class copy of the vocabulary list.
The students completed and turned in the "Tea Party" Activity for the short story The Three Century Woman.
At the end of class the students began to work on text questions for The Three Century Woman shortstory. If the students did not complete the questions they are to finish them for homework tonight.
Attached is the PowerPoint from class. Students should have taken notes in their 5 subject notebook while we went through the power point.
After reviewing Characterization the students watched a video, listed below, where they filled out a 1/3 handout sheet helping them uncover the characterization of Tigger in the video.
After the video the students were to take what they learned about characterization and complete a handout focusing on the characterization in The Three Century Woman.
The students should complete the characterization worksheet for homework and be prepared to turn it in tomorrow.
To begin class the students received papers back that have been graded and entered into Power School. Students should keep all papers and handouts that we complete during this unit.
Before moving on we reviewed the characterization chart the students should have completed for homework.
Then the students turned in their Characterization chart.
For the rest of class the students had the opportunity to complete mini lesson stations. Each station had an activity that would help review some of the skills we have gone over in class. For example, one station focuses on characterization. These stations will help the students review for their strategies/skills test on Tuesday August 22nd.
Today the students are continuing to work on the stations in class. By the end of class the students should either be done with their stations or almost done (to the point where they could finish in the first 10 minutes of class on Friday).
Any student who does not feel as though they can finish their stations at the beginning of class tomorrow should work on the stations for homework. These stations will be turned in on the day of the test, Tuesday.
Homework: Tomorrow we will begin The Island of the Blue Dolphins! Yay! Students should make sure they bring their copy of the book to class tomorrow.
August 18th:
Today the students finished the stations in the first 10 minutes of class. The students should complete any stations they were not able to finish in class. On Monday the class will review the stations and discussed any lingering questions.
Next, we moved into The Island of the Blue Dolphins (IBD). The students were introduced to the book and the author through the presentation below.
Homework:
The students should read chapters 1-5 for homework this weekend
