At the beginning of class the students received Island of the Blue Dolphins vocabulary handout. On the back of the vocabulary there is also questions the students will need to complete. This handout will be due on Thursday before their first IBD quiz.
Today we took the whole class to review and prepare for their test TOMORROW. The class first reviewed their stations packet they completed last week. Continuing with review we played Kahoot! The Kahoot consisted of 10 questions about many of the different strategies we have discussed in class.

The students discussed the book with myself, Ms. Lorenzen, and with their peers. To help drive their discussion the students were given discussion questions about the first 7 chapters of the book. Any question the students did not get to answer in their discussion group needs to be completed for homework.

IBD vocabulary and comprehension questions (DUE TOMORROW)
Today the students worked on DoK (Depth of Knowledge) questions on IBD. As a class we went through and completed the first question together. This allowed the students to understand what I am expecting when they use a quote in an answer. The students were then able to answer the next two questions with their table groups. Any student that did not finish was to complete the questions tonight to be able to turn them in tomorrow before the IBD quiz.
When students came into class today they turned in their DoK questions we worked on in class and the students were to finish for homework if they needed.
Today the students took their first IBD Quiz on chapters 1-9.
Then the students listened to chapter 9 in IBD. When the class finished listening, together as a class, we made a list on the board of obstacles Karana had to over come so far in the novel.
The students then read the poem A Rose that Grew in Concrete with a partner. With their partner, the students completed a T-chart that compared a rose to concrete.
By the end of class the students were able to hold a class discussion comparing the poem to IBD.
