Today the students started their warm-up composition books. Each day when the students come into class there will be a warm-up on the board. Students should come into class quickly and quietly and get started on their warm-up. If a student is absent they should ask one of their classmates for the warm-up.
The students started quotation stations. At each station the students read a quote. They then had to write down what the quote is trying to say (meaning) and if they agree or disagree with the quote and why. Below is the instructions and the quotes from today. The class will continue and finish these quotes tomorrow in class.
Students should be studying tonight for their syllabus quiz tomorrow!!
Today the students took their Syllabus Quiz! Any student who was absent or missed the Quiz for any reason should check the Quiz folder when they come back to school.
The students finished the quotation stations they started yesterday.
Today the students started reading the short story In Search of Out Mother's Garden.
With a partner, while they read the story, the students completed a handout to help the students focus on the concept of central idea.
Students should also complete a bubble chart focused on the short story. The chart is located on the back of the handout that the students worked on while they read during class.

Today we wrapped up working with the short story "In Search of Our Mother's Garden". The students finished and reviewed the text questions for the short story through group and class discussion.
The students turned in their Central Idea handout from yesterday and their quotation stations from the beginning of the week.
August 11th:
Today the students started a "Tea Party Activity" with the short story "The Three Century Woman."
The students worked on their inference and predicting skills before reading the short story. If the students did not finish the Tea Party Activity in class it is to be finished for homework.
