Today the students will begin class by getting their quarter 3 argumentative paper back.
After looking over the paper the students will answer the following questions (this gives the students the opportunity to see where they can improve and where they did well on their paper):
What is on thing you did well?
What is one thing you could improve on?
Find one incorrect in-text citation and correct it! (Look back at Friday's warm up if you need help)
After looking at their papers we the students will file them into their folder in the classroom.
To move on, the students will pull out their copy of The Birthmark that they should have read and CUREd over the weekend.
Independently the students will answer six questions on the text.
When answering the questions the students will go back in the text and highlight the textual evidence that helps support their answer. (Each question's text evidence will be highlighted in a different color.
After working independently the students will discuss in pairs the answers they found and the text evidence that helps support their answer.
We will then go over the questions as a class.
As a class we will then watch two videos.
The students will be comparing these videos to The Birthmark on a handout they collected when they walked in the class.
With a partner they will complete the handout. Any student who does not finish will need to finish for homework.
Today we will begin class discussing and going over the text dependent questions for Harrison Bergeron. Students were to complete these if they did not finish in class yesterday.
After going over the questions and discussing the students turned in their annotated (CURE) story stapled with the text dependent questions.
We then moved on to looking at two poems.
The students read "One" in the textbook and were given a hard copy of "Thumbprint"
We read the poems as a class and the students summarized each stanza as we read.
With a partner the students will answered the following questions on a sheet of paper to be turned into the bin:
"One" poem
What is the theme?
What is James Berry saying about individuality and reproducibility?
"Thumbprint" poem
What is the theme of "Thumbprint"?
Are Eve Merriam and James Berry in total agreement on the question of individuality? What are the similarities and differences in the arguments presented by these authors?
