Today the students received a new Behavior Plan card in their Lightning Time class. Students should get the card signed by their parents by Friday October 27th.
At the beginning of class we went over some house keeping items.
Where to find extra copies, where to find your paper you turned in (if you did not put your name on it), Where the turn in bins is, and where any supplies the students would need during my class.
In my class we started a new ticket system! (or reward system) YAY!
The students can earn tickets for showing any of the B.O.L.T. policies. Every other Thursday the students can "cash in" their tickets if they have 25 or 50 tickets to get a prize.
We then moved on to talk about the Spelling Bee.
On Thursday in my class the students will be participating in a class wide Spelling Bee. On Friday the winner from each class will compete so we can have a winner and an alternate to compete in the school wide Spelling Bee on December 13th.
The students were given a list of words they can study to help them during the Spelling Bee.
The students were given a unit 2 vocabulary sheet.
We started this unit with 9 vocabulary words. The students should define each word and draw a picture to help them remember the definition.
Students were given 10 minutes to work on their vocabulary in class. Anything not finished needs to be completed for homework.
Lastly, we moved into our first topic of the week - Text Structures.
Students completed a pre-assessment handout to get them thinking about text-structures.

October 25th:
Today the students began class with a warm up.
After going over the warm up together the students turned their attention back towards text-structures.
At the beginning of class the students began a KWL(what I Know, what I Want to know, and what I learned) chart by filling in the K and W about text-structures. The students will complete this chart on Thursday.
We then watches a 2 minute video introducing the students to the basic concepts of what a text-structure is.
To follow the video the students complete guided notes while we went through a PowerPoint together as a class.
In partners the students practiced (Practice #1) identifying the 5 different types of text-structures we discussed in the notes. If the students did not complete the practice in class they are to complete it tonight for homework.
Homework:
Students are to create an example of a text structure. However the students should not label it!! We will be using this homework assignment in class on Thursday!

Today the students participated in a Class Spelling Bee.
The two winners from each class will meet with me during lightning time tomorrow to compete for the spelling bee winner and alternate for 7-4. These two students will then move on to compete in the school wide spelling bee.
After the spelling bee the students turned in their "Identifying Text Structures" handout they worked on yesterday and were to complete for homework.
Students then used their homework from last night in a table group discussion. The students looked at each others graphic organizers and labeled each of them with their corresponding text structure.
At the end of class the students began stations for identifying text structures. The students will complete these stations Friday after their Cold Read test.
