Today the students received which book they will be reading in literature circles starting February 16th. Students will need to have a copy of their book by this date.
Next, as a class we went over the 10 vocabulary words the students were to have completed on Friday 1/26 and the students received the next 8 words. The students should have these 8 words completed by Friday 2/2.
Today we began an article focusing on technology.
Before diving into the article the students paired up and were given a couple different scenarios. As a pair the students were to come up with how the child would react to the situation and how a parent would react.
After having time to discuss the different scenarios we came together as a class and discussed the questions "What were the pros and cons of video games as revealed by this scenario?"
Students then continued to work with their partner as they were to read and CURE the "Game On" article.
Students used the Think aloud strategy while reading.
Think aloud strategy: one student would read a paragraph or two, stop and discuss by making a comment, asking a question, summarizing, or making a connection. Once they finished thinking aloud, the other students would read aloud. Students continue switching off until they finish reading the article.
Finish read the "Game On" article if students did not complete in class.
